Alwyn Velasquez | UX/UI Design

For as long as I can remember I’ve always been a designer. As a kid in Bogota, Colombia I would sit for hours drawing. At the time, I didn’t even know what a designer was, but really that’s where I was headed. At the age of ten I moved to the U.S. Eventually I exchanged my pencils, sketch books, and line drawings for a computer, and HTML5. I still get that same thrill of creation when I work on a design that I know people are going to see and use. These days I get as much pleasure (and often more) from working with a team completing projects and building great products.

I have a degree in graphic design from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and a Master’s in Management (an MBA equivalent) from Lesley University. Learning the latest stuff is a never ending process for me. That’s why I recently entered Startup Institute Boston–a highly selective training program that prepares early and mid-career folks for high-impact jobs in Boston’s startup technology sector. My specialty at Startup Institute was product development and design, and included a mobile development project for Constant Contact.

When I’m not playing with pixels, you’ll often find me as a semi–professional photographer taking photos of my travels, architecture, food, and people, enjoying an eclectic taste in music and movies, spending quality time with family and friends, contributing content in social media circles, and putting new applications through their paces (yes I’ve a beta tester on a few). I also cook traditional Colombian and personal style experimental dishes (I cook it, you eat it, and you let me know how it tastes). I also make and take pride in baking the best sweet potato pie north of the Mason–Dixon line!
